Brazil team arrives in Lima

The Selecao arrived in the capital on Sunday night in high spirits after coach Tite led them past Argentina in what was their fifth consecutive victory under the new boss.

Brazil landed in Lima on Sunday in high spirits ahead of their World Cup qualifying showdown with Peru.

The five-time world champions arrived off the back of a stunning 3-0 demolition of great rivals Argentina in Belo Horizonte on Thursday, which was their fifth consecutive victory since coach Tite’s June appointment.

Not since Marcelo Bielsa’s all-conquering Argentina team of the 2002 World Cup qualifying campaign have a Conmebol side won five qualifiers back-to-back, and the Selecao were once again met by scores of fans to stoke the flames of the feel-good factor that has engulfed the side since the former Corinthians man’s arrival.

Hundreds of supporters greeted the team at the Hilton Miraflores Hotel in the Peruvian capital, where Tite’s side can take another huge step towards sealing automatic qualification for Russia 2018.

The team will train at the Estadio Nacional on Monday in what will be Tite’s last chance to work with his players this year.

Tuesday’s clash will be Brazil’s final qualifier of 2018, with the qualification campaign set to resume in March when the Selecao travel to Uruguay before hosting their 2015 Copa-America executioners Paraguay.

Brazil sit top of the pile in CONMEBOL's 10-team group, one point clear of second-placed Uruguay and with seven points between themselves and the final automatic qualification place.
