Bangladeshi Filmmaker Saidul Islam Builds a Career in Europe’s Exhibition Industry

Bangladeshi filmmaker and screenwriter Saidul Islam Rana began his professional career in the film industry before moving into exhibition stand construction and project management in Europe. He currently works as Head of Exhibition Operations, overseeing exhibition-related projects in several European countries.
Over the years, Rana has worked on exhibition projects in Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Austria and France. His responsibilities include project planning, team coordination, compliance with safety regulations and ensuring that projects are completed within scheduled deadlines.
Exhibition stand construction is a highly time-sensitive process. Stands have to be built within a limited period before an exhibition opens and dismantled soon after it ends. The work also involves coordinating workers, contractors, suppliers and logistics teams from different countries.
Rana’s responsibilities cover various stages of a project, from initial planning to completion. These include preparing work schedules, coordinating workers and technicians, managing the supply and transportation of materials, arranging trucks and forklifts, communicating with clients and ensuring compliance with local safety regulations.
He says an exhibition stand is more than a temporary structure. It serves as a platform through which a company presents its brand, products and services to visitors. His background in filmmaking has helped him understand visual presentation, spatial arrangement and the importance of attracting an audience’s attention.
Working Across Different European Markets
Working in different European countries has given Rana experience in dealing with diverse languages, cultures and professional practices. Exhibition projects also require compliance with country-specific regulations and safety standards, making coordination and advance planning essential.
According to Rana, professional competence and the ability to adapt to different working environments are particularly important when managing international projects.
A Background in Filmmaking
Alongside his work in exhibition management, Rana remains involved in filmmaking. He has worked as a director and screenwriter, and one of his projects received a national-level film grant.
Although filmmaking and exhibition management are different professional fields, Rana believes that skills such as planning, visual storytelling, creativity and team management can be applied in both.
His career has therefore developed across two distinct areas—film and international exhibition management. His experience in European exhibition projects has allowed him to work with international teams while developing expertise in project coordination, logistics, safety compliance and time-bound execution.
